April 1997 Ostrich Farm Training Seminar
Ostriches On Line as co-sponsore hosted an international seminar in Ohio, USA during April 1997.
The seminar and ostrich dinner was attended by almost fifty people from four continents, and the
fact-filled weekend was enjoyed by all.
New ideas were shared, traditional methods were revisited and new business relationships were formed.
Everybody learned a great deal, and our main speaker, Kim Reiss from Blackwing Ostrich Farms of Ohio, is
to be congratulated for her excellent presentation and never-ending and in-depth knowledge of these
wonderful birds.
A superb ostrich dinner prepared by the hotel's chef was served to a very receptive audience on
Saturday evening. Not an empty plate was to be seen anywhere (which can't be said for pink boa's!!).
The main business at hand was a complete two-day program covering all aspects of ostrich farm management.
We have included below information on how to obtain the notes and a complete video of the proceedings.
Sunday morning started with some sticky buns for breakfast, and after lunch everyone was transported to
the farm for a two-hour tour and bird handling demonstration.
Numerous people were amazed at the docility of our high-pedigree African Black ostriches
and it was suggested that we had fed each bird a bottle of valium. In fact these were just the
normal traits of our superb pedigree ostriches.
After a detailed tour of the high-tech incubation and hatching facilities, a discussion on pens, farm
layout and feeding was held. Prior to final departure, a visit to the second farm was made; grow
out facilities were studied and examined.
Ostriches On Line and Blackwing Ostrich Farms would like to thank everyone who attended, including our
partner Herbert from Brazil, as well as our guests from New Zealand, Canada, Asia and elsewhere. Without
all of you, our seminar would not have enjoyed the success that it did.
Thank You!!!
